A Typical Morning for a disc jockey?

Here I post...for all to read the behind the scene story of what happens to a radio disc jockey on a typical day. The beginning of this day truly seems to be strange.

My thoughts are these:

So…the event of mid-April --- it turned out NOT to be TAX DAY after all in St. Louis.
No…it will be remembered for generations to come --- the EARTHQUAKE that awakened a large part of the Midwest this morning at 4:37am --- a 5.2 on the Richter scale – centered about 128 miles east of St. Louis --- with reports of windows rattling as far north as Michigan and southeast in Georgia and throughout Illinois, Indiana and Missouri - and people reported feeling the tremor in parts of Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas and Ohio .
I don’t know about you, but for me it will be forever etched in my mind because of my location…

I was up just a bit after 4 am – and when I’m up, I usually stay awake.

THIS MORNING…I will fully disclose…I was awake – fully awake. This little kitty cat had rubbed on my legs about 2 minutes before the temblor hit.
But…there I was…sitting…quietly in the dark…
Of all the things to be busy doing at 4:37 in the morning – and you’d think SLEEP would be the ONE THING I’d be doing – like the majority of St. Louisans…but…no…
…I was just finishing my journey across the house in the bathroom. On the toilet.

…TALK ABOUT A MOVING EXPERIENCE!!! Top THAT!

The All-New KZQZ Hot Talk & Cool Oldies 1430 AM

From the Rabbitt's Hutch:

Well, here we are - two weeks on the air at (as it says in the title of the entry) "The All-New KZQZ - Hot Talk & Cool Oldies 1430 AM" - aka "The BIG Q" - and what a BLAST it is to have great oldies on the radio again in St. Louis - like it was when I was growing up here!

Yes, I'm a born and bred St. Louis boy --- my life has been spent primarily within 120 miles of St. Louis --- but I am happy to have gone and seen a little of the world now and then. Vegas, baby! Honlulu-Waikiki has been my favorite thus far, but I'm still here for awhile...and weekdays you'll hear me on the radio in St. Louis and vicinity on 1430AM, KZQZ - playing the cool oldies that people grew up hearing on the old KXOK or the old WIL-AM (which occupied 1430 in the old days) or the old KXLW or the old KIRL or even the former KGLD (an oldies station in the 1980s). See, there's no need for someone to go elsewhere for the great songs that nobody else has played for years or even decades!

Johnny Rabbitt (KXOK) of the 1960s would have found this refreshing --- we get to play these great old 45s using "personality-plus" instead of just reading liner cards and being staid and old. Yes - we get to do radio in the old style, where we have FUN ON THE RADIO! The boss says we can have fun --- so, I hope this finds the fans of the station will help us out and call us on the COOL PEOPLE HOTLINE at 888-394-1430 or in the Metro East (618) 394-1430 and let us know what you like to hear...songs...phone calls...personalities...promotions, etc. At KZQZ (1430AM), we really do want to earn our spot as everyone's FAVORITE radio station. But, we truly need some help - as if that wasn't obvious already - from the listeners to TELL EVERYONE --- even if it means some people do something fanatical --- to TRY US OUT!

In the coming weeks, I'll write about things that we'll be doing on the air at The BIG Q - 1430 AM - KZQZ. Meanwhile - keep those calls coming...and make sure you have your ears on to 1430AM in St. Louis, Belleville, Alton, Affton, Glasgow Village, Arnold, Washington MO, St. Peters, Florissant, Hazelwood, Fenton, Smithton, Columbia IL, Troy MO and Troy IL, O'Fallon IL and O'Fallon MO, Shiloh, Barnhart, Collinsville, East St. Louis, Wildwood, Edwardsville, Ballwin, Glen Carbon, Fairview Heights, Des Peres, Clayton, Wood River, Maryland Heights, St. Charles, Bethalto, Eureka, and all the several hundred other communities that make up the 2.2-million+ in the metropolitan St. Louis region. I'm hoping to meet as many of you as I can this year!
